Obituary: Charles Thomas Dorcey

Charles Thomas “Tom” Dorcey, 87, went from his home in Farwell to his home in heaven on January 28, 2023. Tom was born in Whittemore, Michigan on June 5, 1935, one of seven children of Charles and Ida
Dorcey. Following graduation from Whittemore High School, Tom attended Central Michigan University and attained a Bachelor of Science and a secondary teaching certificate which he put to use teaching math and science for 6 years, at Sebewaing High School and in Frankenmuth where he made his home for 40 plus years. It was at Central Michigan University where Tom met his future wife, Helen Marie Lehto.
Tom is survived by his loving wife Helen, his 4 sons; Charles, Jr. (Elizabeth) of College Park, Md; Timothy of Santa Monica, CA; Paul (Caroline) of Chelsea, MI. and Stanley (Carol) of Prospect Hts, his seven beloved grandchildren; Eric (Robyn), Christopher, Kyle, Nicole, Marlo, Wallis, and Flannery, his sisters Elsie and Ethel and many nieces and nephews He was preceded in death by his parents, his sisters; Clarissa, Helen, Janet, and brother William.
Tom was an avid deer hunter and fisherman, especially for Brook Trout from the stream at the cabin in the woods. He enjoyed camping and hiking especially with church groups and family. Tom and Helen were charter members of the UMC in Frankenmuth in 1962 and continued to serve in many ways. Tom served Farwell United Methodist Church as a trustee, as Chairman of Finance, on Leadership Councils and also Stewardship Committees.
Other community involvement in Frankenmuth was through being President of the Jaycees and the
Optimist Club. After retiring from the work force, they moved “up north” in 2000 making their home in
White Birch Lakes in Clare County. It was there in Clare County where Tom gained fame as “The
Popcorn Man” volunteering making and selling popcorn at Mid-Michigan Hospital every week for 20 years as a fundraiser for the hospital.
A celebration of life is planned for Tom on Thursday, February 2 nd , 2023 at 11:00AM at the Farwell United Methodist. Pastor Ray Francis will officiate. Family and friends may visit from 10:00 AM until the time of service. Please consider memorial contributions to Farwell
United Methodist Church. Envelopes will be made available at the church. Arrangements have been entrusted to Campbell Funeral Home & Cremation Services.
